HOW YOU CAN HELP

We need your help to keep this wonderful organisation to carry on its fantastic work within our community.

  • We support people who know the value and importance of having a family pet, but who struggle to pay the ‘over and above’ expenses.

  • We support people who feed and de-sex abandoned cats and kittens.

  • We have established and operate animal sanctuaries (principally for cats) in lovely rural settings.

  • We promote education and awareness on appropriate care and responsible pet ownership.

  • We strive to find loving homes for our rescued cats and kittens.

A beautiful friendship could be just around the corner!

About us

The Taranaki Animal Protection Trust (TAPT) was established in 2011 as a response to an urgent need within our community. We recognised that a number of individuals were providing care and protection for animals of all kinds, often with limited resources and support. Our founding mission was simple - to provide meaningful assistance to these compassionate carers who oversee the welfare of animals (particularly cats/kittens) throughout the Taranaki region.

As our community has evolved, so too have the challenges facing the welfare of vulnerable felines. The landscape of need has shifted significantly over the past decade, with more complex situations requiring our intervention. We've adapted by expanding our services and building our resources to meet these emerging demands. Unfortunately, we've also witnessed a steady increase in the number of cats and kittens requiring our help, with each passing year bringing more cases to our attention. This growing need reflects broader societal changes and underscores the importance of our continued presence in the community.

Taranaki Animal Protection Trust is a registered charitable trust and is 100% run by volunteers. All money goes directly to the health and welfare of the animals in the Taranaki region.

Found Pets

Any cats or kittens that Taranaki Animal Protection Trust rescue, that are not specifically surrendered to us, have to be advertised for a period of 7 days before they can be considered for adoption.

We regularly update our Facebook page with details on where the animal was found, along with a picture.
